Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency in action at 251 E. 12th Avenue

Remodeling work is about 98% completed and with the addition of the North West wing and floor to ceiling remodeling, many of you have already experienced several changes at 251 over the past 3 years.
  • Effectively reduced lighting costs by 1/3 by replacing all old fluorescent light fixtures with high efficiency low wattage fixtures
  • State of the art air conditioning and heating systems are highly efficient
  • The boilers are new and use half of the natural gas of the older boiler systems
  • Temperature systems are pre-set and hold until released by a command
    • Systems automatically shut down every night, on the weekends, and on holidays
    • Systems automatically turn on in the mornings of work days

Looking into the future
  • The roof top of the North West wing may receive a solar array
    • May supplement electrical power for the building or perhaps some of our hot water, or maybe even both
    • Studies will be conducted in the next several weeks to determine feasibility
  • Installation of a green roof at 251
    • A green roof is planted native vegetation on a roof top serving multiple functions
      • Keeps building cooler in the summer months and reduces maintenance work on a/c units
      • Serves to remove heat islands in the city
      • Very pleasing to the eye
    • Studies would be conducted to determine feasibility
