2006 Annual E3 Job Fair
On October 3, 2006, the Department of Labor and
Employment joined forces with six Denver Metro area
Workforce Centers to hold the sixth annual E3 Job Fair.
Thousands of job seekers attended the event at the Adams
Mark Hotel in downtown Denver. Each year, the E3 Job
Fair is one of the best job fairs offered because it
connects job seekers with quality employers who are
hiring. But it’s also more than a job fair. The currency
of economic growth
is employment. And
behind employment is education. Those
are the three E’s that form the basis of this unique
event that brings together representatives from
business, government, and higher education to offer
solutions to foster economic opportunity.

Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Reception
On August 30, thirteen individuals were recognized
(employers as well as job counselors) for their
outstanding contributions to the Governor’s Summer Job
Hunt. The awards ceremony was MC’d by Lynne Valencia,
Director of Community Relations for 9News. During the
awards ceremony Governor Bill Owens surprised Julie
Berge with a special award for her six years of work as
administrator of the program.
Trinidad Teen Awards
The 2006 Governor’s Summer Job Hunt is wrapping up and
at the end of each year, the Trinidad Workforce Center
holds an awards dinner for local teens who had done
exemplary work in their summer job. Throughout the
summer, a teen worker was showcased weekly in the
Trinidad Chronicle-News. Then, on August 14, the young
workers were presented with awards for the outstanding
contributions they made to Trinidad area employers.
Way KOOL Morning Show
On June 1, Governor's Summer Job Hunt program
administrator Julie Berge taped an interview at Denver's
KOOL 105 with Dan Mitchell, host of the "Way KOOL
Morning Show." The interview aired on June 2. Dan told
Julie he was particularly interested in finding out how
to get his teenage son off the couch and into a summer
job.
Colorado and Company
On May 31, Julie Berge was interviewed about the
Governor's Summer Job Hunt on "Colorado & Company," a
magazine-style show that airs live on Channel 9, KUSA-TV,
from 10-11 am on weekdays. Julie discussed how teens can
tap into Colorado's job market and how Workforce Centers
and the Governor's Summer Job Hunt program helps them do
that. Julie (at left) poses with the show's hosts Denise

26th Annual
Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Program May 8 was the unofficial kickoff of the 26th
annual Governor’s Summer Job Hunt program. The
Department partnered with KUSA 9News to provide a “Teen
Jobline 9” call-in feature during the station’s early
evening newscast. Honor students from local high schools
worked the phones with Department staff, answering
questions from teen job seekers and registering them
with the Summer Job Hunt program. During the 5 PM
newscast, Governor Bill Owens visited Teen Jobline 9 and
talked with reporter Paula Woodward about the importance
of a summer job. “Every summer job I had – whether in
construction or loading trucks – taught me something
about the working world and about myself,” the governor
told Paula. “Every young person learns valuable lessons
from summer work.”

Jobline 9
The Department of Labor and Employment is proud of its strong working
relationship with Denver’s NBC affiliate, KUSA 9News. On November 28, the
Department staffed a special edition of the station’s popular call-in feature
for job seekers called Jobline 9. This call-in spotlighted part-time jobs and
companies with flexible hours or work-from-home opportunities. For two and half
hours, staff took hundreds of phone calls from job seekers. Here are some
photos from that event.
