TRINIDAD WORKFORCE CENTER AND CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY
JOIN FORCES TO ASSIST JOB SEEKERS

Series of presentations set to help people get back to work

(TRINIDAD) – The Trinidad Workforce Center and the Carnegie Public Library will be offering a series of presentations in May and June to help job seekers better market themselves to employers.  Below is the schedule of upcoming presentations.  Each session begins at 7:30 pm with a short instructional video followed by an opportunity for attendees to talk one-on-one with Workforce Center staff.

May 14:  The Application

Many job seekers today haven’t applied for a job in many years.  This first workshops begins with the basics, showing you how to complete an application form easily and effectively.

May 28:  The Interview

Would you hire you?  Job-seekers must demonstrate their value through effective verbal and non-verbal communication and this workshop will show you how to do that.

June 11:  Keeping the Job

This session offers advice from career experts on how workers can take a proactive stance to be recognized as a valuable part of your company.

June 25:  Resources

There are a variety of ways to learn about job openings and places to turn for assistance.  It’s critical that you know about all the resources available to you and this session provides a good overview – plus one-on-one assistance.

The Trinidad Workforce Center and the Carnegie Library are pleased to present these training opportunities for local job seekers.  “The Carnegie Public Library provides a variety of resources for job seekers and we’re proud to be partnering with the Trinidad Workforce Center to offer even more resources and services in tough economic times, ” says Director Jane Besel.

The Library now has a computer that can be used to access the “Connecting Colorado” website (www.connectingcolorado.org) that allows job seekers to do a “self-directed” job search.  Library visitors may search the job offerings, apply for unemployment benefits (at http://www.coworkforce.com/UIB/onlineservices.asp), as well as use the library’s website to access the Learning Express database, on which one can take practice exams for such diverse options as the GED and ASVAB, civil service and college entrance examinations, and other types of educational skill tests.

This computer may be reserved in advance by calling the library at 846-6841.  Unlike the other public access computers, which are limited to a single one-hour session per day, this one can be used for a period of up to three hours.   “We regret that we are not able to provide ‘computer tutoring’ services,” reminds Director Besel, “as we simply do not have enough staff to do so.  However, patrons are invited to bring a computer-savvy companion along if they need assistance.”  The Carnegie Public Library is open from 9 am to 7 pm, Monday through Thursday, from 9 am to 5 pm on Fridays and from 9 am until 4 pm on Saturdays.

Betty Velasquez, director of the South Central Workforce Centers, is pleased to be working with the Carnegie Public Library.  She says this joint effort will provide valuable information to job seekers in the Trinidad area.  “Job seekers outnumber job openings in today’s economy.  With fewer opportunities there is more competition and job seekers need to know how to effectively market themselves.  These free training events will provide strategies for improving their chances of success.”
