COALITION OF SUMMIT COUNTY SERVICE PROVIDERS TO OFFER
A COMMUNITY RESOURCE AND JOB FAIR
April 22 Event to help people get back to work
(FRISCO) – Private and public sector partners are joining forces this month to offer a Community Resource and Job Fair at the Frisco Senior and Community Center, 0151 Peak One Boulevard on April 22 from 12 Noon to 5 PM. During the afternoon, a wide array of services and resources will be provided:
Community Resources
The event is intended to be a lifeline in tough economic times says Frisco Workforce Center director Rosemary Pettus. “We’re bringing together experts to offer assistance on a number of topics. Managing finances, finding affordable health care and learning about training opportunities are just a few of the services that will be provided.”
Among the participating organizations are Summit Combined Housing Authority, the Family and Intercultural Resource Center, Summit Community Care Clinic, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Edward Jones Investments and Colorado Mountain College. Attorneys will also be available for free consultation and advice.
Job Fair
Another attraction of the event will be a job fair with full and part-time positions from local employers. In addition to interviewing with recruiters, job seekers can have their résumés and cover letters reviewed by staff from the Frisco Workforce Center. These Employment Specialists can also provide job seekers with tips and strategies to be successful in interviewing. Before attending the job fair, individuals should register with the Frisco Workforce Center online at www.connectingcolorado.org.
Workshops
Several workshops will be available to attendees:
12:15 PM: Take This Time To Thrive, Not Just Survive
Sharon Russell, Executive Director of the Summit Chamber of Commerce, offers advice and strategies to do your best in this choppy economy.
1:15 PM: How Did We Get Here … And Where Are We Going?
America is facing is a crisis of confidence and Mark Nunn of Edward Jones Investments offers some plain talk about how our system got to this point and what we should do now.
2:15 PM: Intuitive Balance Living
It’s time to invest in yourself says Certified Nutrition and Lifestyle Guidance Counselor Leah Sanders, HHC. She shows how to find a healthy balance in mind, spirit and body.
3:15 PM: Renewable Energy Careers
The Governor’s Energy Office will allocate a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to “shovel-ready” energy efficiency and renewable energy projects (to learn more go to http://www.colorado.gov/energy/index.php?/policy/shovel-ready-projects/) and in this presentation, Keri Brown of Eco Depot USA will explain how to prepare for a career and potential demand for occupations in energy audits, renewable energy and weatherization.
Rosemary Pettus says that this event will be helpful on a number of fronts. “More than 1000 individuals are out of work in the Summit County area and job seekers outnumber job openings,” she says. “That’s why the job fair portion of the afternoon is so important. But the information and assistance the Community Resource and Job Fair offers is equally important. The event will provide assistance in coping with the loss of a job and strategies for improving your chances of getting back to work.”
