ROCKY MOUNTAIN RESOURCE FAIR TO HELP COLORADANS
IN TURBULENT ECONOMIC TIMES
Free event is coming to the Denver Merchandise Mart on April 9
(Golden, CO) – It goes by many different names -- downsizing, reengineering, organizational restructuring. No matter the euphemism that is used, the loss of a job is one of the most devastating events a person can encounter. On Thursday, April 9, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and the Broomfield and Jefferson County Workforce Centers join forces to offer a unique resource fair for people who are experiencing the financial and emotional struggles of getting back on their feet and reconnecting with the world of work.
The event is the Rocky Mountain Resource Fair and it will take place at the Denver Merchandise Mart from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the day, individuals will have an opportunity to connect with resources and gather valuable information to help them with issues they are facing in today’s economy. The fair will offer assistance in résumé writing and tips on interviewing skills. Information from fifty community, state and local organizations will be available to attendees. Staff from the Workforce Centers, Colorado Department of Labor & Employment and the Department of Human Services will be on hand and people can learn about a variety of resources on such issues as health and housing, education, senior and veterans services, credit and tax assistance and many more. And it is all provided FREE.
Workshops will be presented on such topics as financial planning for individuals who have lost part or all of their income and how to overcome obstacles to employment (such as a past conviction). Among the highlights will be a workshop called New Strategies for a New Job Market to be presented by Don Strankowski, the author of Get Hired! 10 Simple Steps for Winning the Job You Desire—in Any Economy, New Strategies for a New Job Market, and Success is a Choice. Don Strankowski is widely considered a leading expert in conducting a modern job search that gets results.
The Plaza at the Denver Merchandise Mart is located at 451 East 58th Avenue on the North side of the building. The Mart is on an RTD route and parking is free. Attendees should come prepared with questions and be ready to learn. ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accommodations are available for any resource fair activity. Please contact the Resource Fair Planning Committee for additional information. American Sign Language interpreters will be on site.
