SYMPOSIUM ON COLORADO’S NEW ENERGY ECONOMY TO BE PRESENTED
BY MONTROSE WORKFORCE CENTER

Forum to showcase employer incentive packages and free assistance

(MONTROSE)  --  America is on the cusp of a new energy future and Colorado is leading the nation in that exciting new direction.  “The New Energy Economy is energizing Colorado’s entire economy, even in the worst downturn in 75 years,” says Governor Bill Ritter,  “and it didn’t happen by accident.  It happened through a concerted and aggressive effort, and the new jobs we’re creating are real and they are happening in every corner of Colorado.”

Making sure workers and businesses are prepared to succeed in these green jobs, so they can help lead a new wave of energy innovation and energy technology, is the subject of an upcoming symposium offered by the Montrose Workforce Center and the Delta-Montrose Electric Association:

What:              The Greening of The Workforce: Helping Build Colorado’s New Energy Economy

When:             Wednesday, September 25, at 1 PM

Where:            Montrose Regional Library

                        320 South 2nd Street,

                        Montrose, CO

The New Energy Economy is much discussed but usually in very general terms.  What makes this symposium so unique is its connection to Montrose County.  “Our event will feature presentations and open-panel discussions with local business leaders and stakeholders,” says Ray Lucero, director of the Montrose Workforce Center.  “It’s an opportunity to learn about energy-related initiatives and how they will specifically impact our area.”

The American Solar Energy Society (http://www.ases.org/) predicts that as many as 1 out of 4 workers in the United States will be working in Renewable Energy or Energy Efficiency industries in the next twenty years.  Those 40 million jobs will not just be technical, but will include millions of new positions in manufacturing, construction, accounting, and management.

In Colorado, emerging green industries are projected to provide high-paying jobs and build a vital new economic base for the state.  “The Greening of the Workforce Symposium will showcase the New Energy jobs that will be in demand in Montrose in the future,” Lucero says.  “New Energy is leading Colorado forward and this symposium is designed to give our community the professional edge needed so that we are not left behind.”

To attend the September 23 presentation, please RSVP to (970) 249-7783 by Friday, September 18.  The symposium is free but space is limited.
